What Constitutes a Group?
We get asked all the time by small businesses if they can qualify for group coverage. More small groups can qualify than you would think and there a many advantages to having a group plan over individual coverage for your employees. You only need 2 people to form a group and 1 of them can actually waive coverage. But who does those 2 people need to be is the question? They can't be married, so husband and wife businesses do not qualify as a group. They also can't both be owners not drawing a salary. So if you own your business you would need at least 1 other person working 30+ hours/week receiving a regular paycheck that is a W2 employee (not a 1099 subcontractor). The owner plus 1 Full time employee would qualify as a group.
